Because this is America, and we are allowed to show our displeasure with a player or a particular play by booing, whether he's on our team or not. I'm not a boo-bird very often, but when one of my players strikes out with the bases loaded late in the game while trailing, I"m sure not gonna give the guy applause. They're big boys, they can take it.

The only reason I would ever boo a player for 1 of my favorite teams is if he screwed up. Even the fans get mad at their team once in a while, just like their coach does. But i wouldn't just boo, after I booed I'd say something like "Come on, you can do better than that". The reason why is to keep them in line.

Of course true fans boo their players that comes to show that the fan is upset at the player or players for not performing the role they are asked to. The player takes the booing as "Oh this is not good i have to do something different in order for my fans not to boo me and inside cheer for me.

as a rangers fan who no longer attends games or even checks tv guide to see if they are on the tube, we are booing the entire organization. from hicks on down to the last guy on the bench. cant field, cant hit, cant pitch, cant cant cant. it's out of frustration and making our voices heard. we want our guys to do well but it's almost hopeless. in fact though, down here nobody does boo because nobody cares anymore and whats the point? WE STINK!
and if you have ever played or coached, sometimes the coach gets on you or you get on the players. and sometimes you boo yourself. the fans are just participating in the game. booing is as natural as cheering, if you care!
dangit, i mean those that do attend games pay dang good money to watch a ball game. not to see mike young boot another ball at ss, or millwood give up 6 earned runs in the first or tex strike out with the bases loaded, or a game that is in no way competetive. let me see, hmmmm, i spent 100 bux and this game is over after the second inning....that was fun! "you could use some baseball!" (thats the rangers ad slogan). FU! boooooooooooooooo!

teams are paying millions of dollars for certain players, and if they dont live up to thier expectations, it often results in boos. And why shouldnt they boo? People come for the love of the game, but they want to see their team win, and sometimes all it takes is that one bad link to make a team fall apart.

They do it because they are disappointed at what they see. However, I think the real fan knows their team is going to make mistakes and have off days and it's just part of the game. The players owe it to the fans to give it their best at all times and the fans really should understand that errors and strikeouts are all part of the game.

Don't make sence to me either. Personally I don't like Brandon Inge...(his batting sucks) but I will not boo him bc in a whole I love my team and support them entirely.
GO TIGERS!!!
Other people--I think it has to do with the money the player was signed for more then anything else...

Usually, the players aren't living up to expectations. Fans expect a lot out of their teams, so they boo to express their displeasure.

"True fans" don't boo. Most fans can be coerced to boo though if things go poorly enough. A player who's not playing up to his potential is a big reason good fanbases will boo. Malcontents (such as Bonds and formerly John Rocker) will draw plenty of negativity as well.

Well, I guess maybe they feel that the player just disappoints them. Like, I admitt I don't like JD Drew (Red Sox fan). I wasn't happy the signed him, and he hasn't done anything to make me respect him. I think it's mainly just free agents who come in and replace the players who came up through their farm system and became a fan favorite.
