If it is a USB webcam, you need the MACAM drivers from:

TIP: Not all USB webcams are supported. My Logitech Chat works fine.

You can't just use any webcam. You need a webcam that's designed for Mac OS X. You can find one on a website that sells Mac accessories. Windows webcams do not work on Macs.
