Stephen Hawkings is a well known and respected physicist for his work on Black holes. However, in the physics community, he is sort of a Donald Trump, famous for being famous. Few would place him on a top 10, or even top 20, list of most important physicists of the 20th century. Still, he is to be admired for his devotion to science despite his crippling injury.
One of the problems with Black holes is that they violate the law of the conservation of information. That law states that information can neither be created, nor destroyed, only changed. The problem is that when matter falls into the black hole, it will eventually re-appear as Hawking radiation. However, that Hawking radiation will have lost all the information regarding its past life as a particle, an obvious violation of the law of conservation of information. This means that there is a strong possibility that black holes as we know do not exist, or at least in the way we think they do, which would nullify the better part of Hawking's life work. In his defense, however, Black holes are currently a central component in the lexicon of modern Astrophysics, so if it were suddenly proven that black holes do not exist, there would need to be a serious re-writing in the field.
In the press conference, Stephen Hawkings released his new theory that the information that falls into a black hole re-emerges in a white hole in another universe, and that the universe is a web of universes coupled by those that transmit information and those that recieve them. In this way, both the law of the conservation of information, and our current theories on black holes, are preserved. While mathematically possible, there is so far no evidence to suggest the existence of parallel universes or dimensions higher than the 4th.
Hawkings, as we speak, is working on his new theory with the help of his faithful pupils, but the process is painfully slow. His ALSs has degenerated his motor ability to the point where he can only move some of the muscles in his face. His work is done by assistants who watch his movements and interpret the facial expressions he makes as a means of communication. We can only hope that Hawkings is able to complete his lifes work before ALS makes him completely immobile, or kills him.

Did he? I would find this surprising because:
1) There is no actual evidence for parallel universes, just math that predicts them - which has been a good reason to believe in stuff before, but since it's not testable, there's no reason to think it's true.
2) String theory predicts the laws of physics may be different in those other universes, but that hardly means that black holes couldn't exist.

I think maybe he was saying that there are white holes in other universes that expel the matter sucked into black holes in our universe. White holes are purely theoretical, but so are alternate universes, so why not? But that's just a theory I made up on the spot, I didn't see the conference.

Actually, there's this scientific theory that states that every action or thought made here is reverberated through to plane. The 4th dimension and higher. This theory is post-humanitarian energy constructionism. It's very new. It's also used to help explain how heaven can exist.
This theory is not to be confused with retro-active humanitarian energy construtionism, which believes that the simple flap of a buttefly's wings can cause a tidal wave in Japan.

And what conference was this? I have never heard such a thing and I am a physicist. Perhaps you are taking his statement out of context.

At least we know if we are to accept his word that when we move into a parallel universe..... we won't fall down one!

Why do they got to be black holes?
why can't they be called white holes, or mexican holes huh?
oh, and to answer your question, marijuana brought up the discussion and it is only important to people who have nothing better to do than sit an contemplate about the universe while high. or people who are extravagantly rich and paralyzed from the neck down.
