Mass defect??? There IS no such thing. In fission, the nuclei of the atoms are split into fragments each making an element, BUT... a very small amount of matter is converted directly into energy and this energy is, of course, tremendous.
In fusion the reaction is the merging of 2 nuclei, and the rest state energy of this particle is much less than when it existed as 2 separate and distict particles, thus yielding an even greater amount of energy. Mass defect??? Cranial defect detected....

I'm not exactly sure. It doesn't make sense that taking an atom apart results in less weight, and putting two atoms together results in less weight. Good question. Maybe the atomic bonds have mass or something. I don't know.
Anyhow, fusion uses up more mass than fision, which is why it produces more energy.

The potential released by potential of fusion is 3 to 4 situations extra desirable than the potential released by potential of fission. it is because of the fact the quantity of mass switched over into potential is that plenty extra desirable in a fusion reaction than in a fission reaction.
