The genius of Pratchett is that he takes common ideas and events and turns them on their head. He is also a master of the pune (or play on words) which, unless you are exactly keyed in to what he is referring to, may well pass you by. An example of this is the Ankh-Morpork bar for the undead, Jeers - where everyone knows your shape.

Yes. Humour really depends on pointing out some of the more illogical quirks of human thought and behaviour. There are a lot of writers/comedians who are good at this but Terry Pratchett is outstanding.
I will second that he is a nice guy too. I was near the end of a very long line at a con waiting for an autograph and he carried on signing long past the agreed time until every one of us had an autograph and his attention. He attends and sits on panels at quite a lot of cons if you want to see him.

Yes! He is by far the best comic/fantasy writer for at least a generation. I love his books and can't wait for the next one (I think it's due out in October)!
