It's not a matter of importance as both are important parts of one's life. But when you marry, your spouse and the family you create together is your primary family and they come first.

In spiritual terms it should be God, spouse, children, then your other family and friends. You made a committment to your spouse when you said your vows and I have never heard that I will love, honor, and cherish you second to my parents!! I do love my parents but my husband will come first.

I would have to say my husband. My mother was horrible to me as I was growing up and my father was pretty much absent the first eighteen years. My grandparents on my father's side did most of the parenting to me. I love my husband dearly and he comes from a very similar background. I guess you could say were kindred...
Parental love and spousal love are two very different things. I don't love my son the exact same way that I love my husband. I love them both completely and deeply, but I could never compare the two, as they are so different. I only chose my husband over my parents because my parents...well...they sucked, for lack of a better term.

You advantageous asked an incredible question, and you have become some fairly good responses too. confident, your companion is extra significant than your mom and dad. yet, you is purely no longer measuring it that way. you will obey God first, via leaving your parents and cleaving on your spouse. And have confidence it or no longer, obedience to God is useful. The reaping is on your obedience. And God supplies the upward thrust. whilst husbands love their spouses as Christ loves the church, how can they no longer have a effective marriage. it fairly is a faith pass. It has to artwork out.

Well, both my parents are deceased, so my husband is most important to me. My mom would have expected me to put my husband first. That's just the kind of selfless person she was. She got to meet him and loved him very much.
Your parents will always be there for you, but they should have prepared for the fact that you would some day marry and be on your own.
For my stepson, I would expect him to put his wife and family first.

To me there is no such thing as one being more important than the other. They are both equally as important to me for different reasons. I love my husband very much (that's why i married him) but you can't forget what your parents have done for you, and recognize that if it weren't for them, you wouldn't be here, and you would not be who you are today.
