To my knowledge, and I've been Tri-lingual for the better part of my 50 years of age, and a foot mark, leaves A Trail. Old Westerns always keep trail Seeker, Tracker, or Path finder, somewhere conveniently stashed away, ready to make his come uppance and save the Posse's Day, so The Marshall gets to pay out he bounty. In The Netherlands and a greater part of Germany, we use the word print. The Mark of a Footprint, is also a Identity Marker. Fingerprints, usually give a crooks deed away.... Funny, how the Witch of Hansel and Gretal should have looked at the boys feet rather then his fingers, to see if he'd gained weight and was ready for the stew.... Anyhow . I keep feeling this Question is more than just the curiosity for an answer.... All right then, it gives me the creeps, when a newborn baby's feet are being inked and copied in hospital for administrative reasons. The Footprint of a child is just as personal an identifier as the fingerprint inside a Cray computer.
