If the majority of people support stem cell research, then the legislation should be passed. Isn't it part of the presidents job to give the people what they want?

We favor stem cell research. What are the numbers on embryonic stem cell research? The President is in favor of adult stem cell research which has actually been very successful. Embryonic stem cell research has not been successful at all. Why should we put federal funding behind something that has not shown any results. It can still be privately funded, but until they show that there is more than just potential the federal government shouldn't fund it. The hope that embryonic stem cell research brings is false hope. It is not based on any real results.
Why is it when supporters of this legislation talk about it they leave out the fact that it is embryonic stem cell research? They always refer to it as just stem cell research. There is a difference.

The Federal Government does fund stem cell research. Just not research done with stem cells collected from destroyed fetuses. Even the mighty Bill Clinton didn't have funding for stem cell research in place during his administration and yes it was a topic at that time.

It is also the president's job to save us from ourselves as well when he sees us voting for things he may consider stupid or unproductive. It is called checks-n-balances. Look it up on the web!
For one of you who sees nothing wrong with stem cell research. Well, that may depend on which side of the stem cell wall you are!

What is wrong with this man? I don't think the truly understands where stem cells come from. Is he afraid that people will get abortions so we can harvest stem cells?
I'd be willing to bet that if someone in his family could benefit from stem cell research, he'd be all for it.

No we don't and tell me with facts where any human life was saved using embryonic stem cells.
I can tell you that millions of lives have been lost to get the stem cells, so when the number of lives saved equals the number of lives lost, then I will revisit my opinion of embryonic stem cells.

Then let that 60% put their money where their mouth is and pay for it themselves
The only reason someone would give my answer a thumbs down is because they want to force their beliefs on me and force me to pay for their beliefs

America isn't ruled by popular vote, thank god. Your only option is to hope a Dem gets elected in 08 and try to push through whatever agenda you want then.
