First of all, that "someone" wants you to give them the advice they want to hear. Secondly, imagining the possibility that you could be right would mean that they're wrong and for some, that's too hard to swallow. And lastly, that person needs to figure things out for themselves. Don't say "I told you so" or else they'll never ask for your advice again.

I say "I told you so" anyway because most likely they are too bogged down in emotions to remember if you did or not.

If they happen to remember you really didnt then I just pull the ole, "you are just in denial" line.

If they still insist you didnt say it then it is time to get angry and put a massive amount of guilt on the situation followed by ultimatems.

If you play it correctly you can get that all important "I told you so" in their belief system.

No I don't say it..because I know they must feel badly...but on second thought I would say something (but not I told you so) If I felt that they were going to repeat the lesson with the same effect.

I wish I had a dime for everytime I've had to bite my tongue to stop from saying that.

I just feel bad that they've gotten themselves into trouble again, and then of course, I help them pick up the pieces, if it's possible to do so.

Naw...I might say it to myself, but I won't boast about it...because they already know. But, hopefully they will learn for the next time. Plus, they know that you are not going to make a fool out of them if there is a next time. Trust has been better established basically.

If the person actually did learn a lesson, I say "I tried to tell you, but you just weren't listening." They usually start listening to me after that.

I would never, and I mean never ever tell someone "I told you so" for one good reason..

The person probably feels bad enough as it is without having to be told yet again, what a dumbass they had been...

Why rub salt into the wound? What good can come from it?

None...

I let it go. Most of the time they know... Why knock them down when they are already low enough to be humbled by what they just went through. Who knows... You might just learn something by their experiance.
There is more here in this question than you realized...

Cheers!

It depends on how downtrodden they are. I won't kick a friend when they're down but if it's something small like we took a wrong turn I'll rub it in playfully.
