I have installed all known codecs and I can play the file if I save it and then open it. My question is, why won't the file automatically play in Windows Media Player when I click on the link? I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered.

I get no error messages. When I first click the link I'm taken to a page that says IE can't access that page, as if I'm not even connected to the internet. Then when I click it again the little wheel just spins and spins.

I can copy the url and play the file in WMP that way, but clicking on the thumbnail itself yields nothing.

Make sure that you can watch movies from Google Video and Youtube. If you can, make sure you have the DivX codec (DivX.com). If that doesn't work, go through your Internet Explorer settings to see if something is turned off. (Tools>Internet Options). Make sure you don't have an Internet filter installed that will stop movies from playing.

If this doesn't work, type in more info. Do you get an error message...?

Check to see if wmp is your default player, if not make it so. Also these formats may not be supported by wmp, not all formats are. Also you can also just use Divx, windows media player isn't that good anyway.
