I make jewelry for fun and realized I need to sell it because I can't afford to keep making it alone. I have a website and "business" cards with my cell phone and a website I pay for. I have no employees. I have an eBay store that is not profitable. I want to make jewelry for a coffee shop where I work, and sell it to them for a wholesale price. I really can't afford a business license. So what should I do, get a loan? Or do I even need a license to do this when I have no employees? I'm just 21, help me out here :)

You never did say what State or City you're in. Go to the state controllers web site and look at the requirements for business licenses and also go to your city web site and look at their requirements for business licenses.

as far as any license is concerned that would probably be a local community business license which you need to check to see the r'qrments there you might need to get registered with your state sales tax agency to be able to charge and collect sales tax, which you probably do need, your state web site for sales taxes will describe the type of businesses that need to be registered and your lack of record keeping of what you purchase is a serious problem since you do need to know how much you paid for the stuff you turn around and sell you will use Sch C to report your income and business expenses, if the 'net' amount is $400 or more you will owe self employment tax on Sch SE you can use your name or create one which if you do will probably cause you to have to advertise your 'doing business as' (DBA) locally and may be a r'qrment of the local business license

Business licenses are usually issued by cities for people who do business within the city. Every city has its own laws. Either check with your city or the local chamber of commerce.

In addition you will need a state license in order to collect sales tax. There is no charge for that.

i don't think anyone cares if you are making about 5-6k a year. if you are pulling 10k a month, get a license and why do you still work at the coffee place. and business license in general will not cost you more than a couple of hundred.

Yes, but the type of license is dictated by local regulations. The best place to check is the county clerk's office at the courthouse.

You need to contact your locality and find out if they require you to have a business license. If your locality requires you to have one then yes you need one, but they may just require you to pay like $10 to register your name as a sole proprietorship

If you are retailing locally you need a vending license. Call zoning and talk to them; it might not be all that much.
