Did you do a check to see...Is the machine threaded properly? Is the bobbin wound properly? Are you bringing the bobbin thread up to the surface of the fabric? Have you put the proper sized new needle in the machine? If you have done all these checks, you may have a problem that needs a repair person to look at it.

How old is your needle? It may be bent. Put in a fresh needle every time you start a sizeable project.
Also, are you bringing the needle down by hand to catch the thread? Some people just start sewing and hope for the best, but it needs to be brought up by hand. When you do, make sure your setting is on straight stitch, not zigzag, and make sure it's centered.
If that doesn't help, time for a tune-up!

If you are talking about a sewing machine, it may be time to see about taking it in to a repair shop that specializes in sewing machines.
If you have not already done so, try cleaning the machine (around the thread/needle area) with canned (spray) compressed air. Might be a fuzz problem, but could be something that needs repair. You could also try completely re-threading the needle and bobbin (might be a tension problem).
Usually mine needs to be repaired if a cleaning and re-threading don't fix the problem.
