I have heard rumors that this deleted scene explains that if Elizabeth is faithful to him through the ten years and he does the job correctly, that the curse will be lifted. (?)

According to the writers of POTC 3, there is a deleted scene. Apparently, that scene between Calypso (Tia Dalma) and Davy Jones in the brig of the ship was supposed to discuss the "Davy Jones Legend" in more detail, but was cut for unknown reasons. As long as Will effectively does his job of ferrying souls to the land of the dead and Elizabeth is faithful to him for ten years, and is waiting for him upon his return, then Will is freed from his captaincy. Someone else from the crew of The Flying Dutchman will take his place, since The Flying Dutchman "always needs to have a captain".

Allegedly the writers have said that there was a deleted scene between Davy Jones and Tia Dalma that makes this clear. The thing in the scene that gives it credence is the green glow, which appears when someone who is dead returns to life.

It came on after all the credits. Watch it for yourself on utube.

The only thing it really shows is after 10 serving his "time" in the sea, he gets 1 day onland to see Elizabeth. In no way does it show the curse if lifted. It was the 10 year in the sea 1 day on the shore deal. Hope this helps.

yeah, at the end after the credits, will and elizabeth have a child, and her and the kid are on the island. you can see the ship coming back and liz tell the kid that his dad is coming back! it is so sweet!
