The meaning of love is found in its action and the relationship it exists in.

The Greeks had several different words for our word "love".

1) Eros (ἔρως érōs) is passionate love, with sensual desire and longing. The Modern Greek word "erotas" means "(romantic) love". However, Eros does not have to be sexual in nature. Eros can be interpreted as a love for someone who you love more than a friend. i.e. dating and marriage. Eros is initially felt in a relationship, after time it changes to appreciation of the beauty of the other person, or appreciation of beauty itself. We get the words erotica and erotic from the word eros.

2) Philia (φιλία philía), means friendship in Modern Greek, a dispassionate virtuous love which includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality and familiarity. It also includes enjoyment of an activity, as well as loyalty between lovers. This is the only other word for "love" used in the ancient text of the New Testament besides agape, but it is used much less frequently.

3) Agapē (ἀγάπη agápē) means "love" in modern day Greek. The term s'agapo means "I love you" in Greek. The word "agapo" is the verb "I love". In Ancient Greek it often refers to a general affection rather than the attraction (eros). Agape can be described as the feeling of being content or holding one in high regard. In Biblical literature, it means self-sacrifice, giving love to all--both friend and enemy. The word "agape" is not always to mean divine love or the love of God.

4) Storge (στοργή storgē) means affection in modern Greek; it is natural affection, like that felt by parents for offspring. It is used solely as a descriptor of relationships within the family.

Some of my own thoughts about Love:

The sun shall not set upon the day
That true love passeth away.

Love is stronger than any force we know
But all the more so when we let it go.

Love is nourishment the soul cannot live without.

Life without love
Is like song without the dove.

Love is all that mattered
When life has left you battered.

Beauty is the light that shines through the eyes of a lover.

When the hurt makes you sad,
Memory of love makes you glad.

The world may melt away,
But love shall ever stay.

If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Love is a committment to sharing one's life and experiences with another person-without reducing that person to an extension of yourself. Love is accepting someone's flaws, admitting your own-and taking the plunge regardless.

To the best you can, and to die for the best you could. Love is to bear this in the mind all the time as if it were known since forever.

love? there are different kinds of love and levels of love...there's love for a family or for your special someone etc...love is a feeling you feel...love is when you feel happiness...love is when you feel hurt....love is when you cared....love is when you sacrifice....love is a mixture of feelings....and love is powerful....because it makes you feel and do things you never expected......moreover, love is such a blessing and so beautiful that can never deviate from absurdities and selfishness --- if so then it is not love...
