He wants to switch internet services and they are listing that as one of their requirements and he is asking me if he has it and I don't know where to tell him to look. His computer is very old, but has ZP on it (probably 10 years old at least)

If you have a monitor attached to the computer, then there is a video adaptor. The adaptor can be "on-board" and built into the mother board or is a card that is in the computer.

There are two ways to check on the adaptor. Go to Start->Control Panel->system. click the hardware tab and then the device manager button. In the list, click on "display adaptor" and there you go... you will know what your computer thinks you have as an adaptor.

To physically check your adaptor, open the computer and look where your monitor plugs into the computer... If there is a wire going from the connection onto the big board, then it's on-board and you will need a technician to go further... If it is a wire going to a card sticking out of the motherboard or directly into a card that is plugged into your motherboard then you should be able to look at the card an it should have some indication as to what card it is and then you can yahoo search the information that is directly on the card.

Good luck!

Based on the age of his computer, he probably does not have the necessary drivers to run Windows XP. But for Internet Services, I am a little puzzled as to why they are asking about having a video adapter, other than playing online video.

You can ask the ISP to specify the basic requirements on their access and compare them against the resources of this system. If he is running Win 98, then he can go to the system folder and it can tell him what is his necessary resources as far as ram goes and if he clicks the device manager he can see the necessary appliances hooked up to include his video monitor and if he clicks on the video monitor he can check the adapters that are loaded.

Good luck
