A couple of days ago, Barack Obama made a comment about a "quiet riot" amongst black people in the USA. Why didn't he talk about a "quiet riot" amongst white people? I cannot believe that he meant that black people are any more likely to riot than white people in his country so I will dismiss that possibility. No intelligent person would mean to say that.
However, what I am more curious about is the implication of the article. Do people in the USA really believe that black people are more likely to riot than white people? Isn't it true that white people riot just as much? As a matter of fact, why limit the discussion to white people? Isn't it true that Japanese-Americans, Cuban-Americans and Native Americans (or any group) are just as likely to riot in the USA?

If you look at our history, there have not been many, if any, riots in areas dominated by Asian-Americans, Cuban-Americans or most other groups. Rioting seems to be a ghetto culture thing, although sometimes a middle class area erupts in rioting. This is not a racial thing, there were Irish ghettos in the 19th century which showed a propensity for rioting exhibited these days by South Central LA, Detroit, etc. It seems to be related to the culture of entitlement, dependancy, and despair which creates the ghetto in the first place. WHere I live, there is an area to the east of us which has been in a sort of slow-motion riot for years. I guess if you spread the killing and destruction over a slightly longer period of time, it isnt perceived as a riot. Sure looks like one going on in there.
I dont believe for a moment the tendancy to riot is any sort of a racial factor. There are many, many black folks who live outside the inner city who do NOT riot when the chance to start one comes, and they do not support those who do riot.

Black people seem to have more problems than whites in the USA !! So they have to riot just to make a point and be heard !! There are alot of raciest in the USA that is what I have found when talking to people from there ! It is harder to find a good paying job if you are black not so much if your white !! So I could see why more blacks riot than whites!! So don't be so quick to dismiss the possibility!! All races riot {FACT} but I believe that the blacks have more reasons to riot!!

Excuse me if I'm offended everytime time someone generalizes like you people are doing. I'm black and I don't riot in the streets, ok? I grew up in white suburbs and never lived in the "hood".

I also don't like or listen to rap "music. Out here where I live it seems that most of the white kids are the ones listening to that junk "music" they call rap.

I dont agree with this. I've noticed that the Mexican_Americans have been more in the spotlight over the last year than anyone. Therefore, it goes to show that niether black nor white people are more likley to riot any more than the next person.

It's true. Black people do riot more than white people. Don't you remember the Rodney King incident?

Yes. It might be politically incorrect to admit it, but the facts are the facts. Blacks riot and commit violent knee-jerk reactions far more than whites or other races.

Statistics say that minorities in the United States lead less affluent lives. Statistics also say that less affluent individuals are more likely to commit acts of violence. Not because they are naturally more violent individuals but because in their communities where large homes and fancy cars aren't an option, individuals use violence as a way to gain respect. So it's not that blacks are more violent. It's that more blacks are in a position to be susceptible to crime and violence.

only over matters of social injustice and inequality, however, when it comes to rioting over one's home team winning or losing a football, baseball, hockey, or basketball game, then the white people are the best at it

They're probably just more likely to have something to be justifiably angry about.
