OK, from my previous question many responded that people should not have the choice of abortion because they believe abortion = murder. If you believe abortion = murder then you should not have an abortion. I don't believe so. Many people don't believe so. Abortion is not legally defined as murder. There are many valid, legally sound reasons for this. Why can't anti-abortionists accept this alternate viewpoint?

To Misterpeasea; Legally valid reason; fetus cannot survive outside the womb and is legally not yet defined as alive. Therefore can't be murdered.

Why is that so hard to understand? If they think it is murder, then they're not going to support it. Period. It's not a matter of opinion to them. They understand that you don't agree, but it's not a yard ornament we're talking about here. Don't you get why they think it's important?

OK, let's try an example. If a new political party came into power and passed a law saying it was ok to kill the elderly after they became unable to work and were a burden to society, and you thought that was horrible, and you felt it was murder, would you care why they disagreed with you, or why there might be valid, legally sound reasons to back up their case? Would you simply "accept that alternate viewpoint"? I know you don't agree, but can't you understand why no one would simply let something like murder be ignored, based on "different viewpoints"?

I think you're so committed to your own viewpoint that you've been unable to put yourself in someone else's shoes.

Because if you did your research, you would know that within 3 weeks of conception, it has been scientifically proven that there is a detectible heartbeat in the fetus.

So tell me. If your woman's fetus had a detectible heartbeat, would you abort it? How can you say its not a living soul?
Abortion may not be "legally" defined as murder, but its not the legal definition you should be worried about. Its the spiritual defiinition.

Would you so boldly go up to any child 1-17 years old and kill him/her? I dont think so. However, this is no difference between that and pulling apart a developing fetus, which is exactly what abortion doctors do. Its an ugly and brutal operation. If you dont believe me then check it out on your own.

When we die, our bodies die, but our spirit lives on. We have a choice between heaven and hell. God gave us free will. When we stand before God, we have to answer for all we have done.

You may not like it, but I would hate to stand before God and try to explain to him why I aborted (or had a part in a decision to abort) a living breathing soul. Believe me, He will ask you.

Death is death, and not giving a fetus, a living soul, the opportunity to live is no different then murder. Think about it.

Where would you be, if your parents decided to abort you???? You would be litterally torn apart and thrown in the garbage.

You really need to rethink your ideas about this subject.

Abortion is murder because it is the taking of a human life. When a sperm cell and an egg cell unite, a human life is formed. The cells have the DNA in them to become a person with a heart and soul and the amazing ability to reason and chose right from wrong which no other creature has. To kill theis is to kill a person. Please understand that those cells are not going to become a fish or a tree so they are already a human life because they are on their way to becoming a human life. If you take a look at the sites and pics below you will see that abortions do not just take something away that is nothing but a human life, a little baby who could do anything with their life. I hope you understand our point of view better and chose based on how your heart feels versus what a corrupt law states.

Because accepting alternative viewpoints is not exactly a human strongsuit.

I believe an individual should have the ultimate choice over his or her own body. This "except in certain cases" stuff is crap. If a woman wants to terminate a pregnancy, we've never really been able to stop her. I mean, we've seen the success prostitution and drug prohibition has had (*rolls eyes*).

At the end of the day, it's just none of our business, so long as abortions aren't being federally funded or anything.

"They" myself included, disagree with arbitrarily drawing a line between when life is life and when it is not. You can speak of "legally" sound reasons all you want, but laws are a function of society and are defined by viewpoints, so really your argument that abortion is not murder isn't anything but circular logic. As a society, we define what murder is and is not, by my definition, abortion is murder and should therefore be illegal. To turn your own question back on you, why do you refuse to accept my viewpoint?
And get it together its "pro-life."

They can accept that. It doesn't keep them from wanting to try to end the practice. If you think something is wrong, you try to get it stopped, even if others think it's right.

Like, say, the War in Iraq. I think it's right. Lots of folks think it's right. Other folks think it's wrong, and they're working to end it. Why can't they just not fight in it, if they think it's wrong?

Or taxes. I think high taxes are bad. Others think high taxes are good, and they try to make everyone pay high taxes. If you like high taxes, why not just pay extra instead of trying to make everyone else pay them?

Or redistribution of wealth. I think it's wrong for the government to take money from one person and give it to another. Others think it's right, and they work for even more redistribution. Why can't they just give their own money to the poor, and leave me alone?

P.S. Give me one valid, legally sound reason.

Dizz: That's a reason the law uses. Doesn't make it valid, or sound. The principle just doesn't apply generally, which makes it suspect.

For example: lots of people would die without medications, for high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. Since they can't survive "on their own," we should be able to kill them without being charged with murder. According to that reasoning.

Lots of babies carried to term and born alive can't survive without lots of help. So we can just kill them without it being murder, right?

See what I mean?

All in all, some people believe their opinion is the only right one. I have a very open mind, and I realize that abortion is a huge issue with some people. I, myself, feel that abortion is perfectly fine in certain circumstances, whereas if someone was constantly sleeping around, getting pregnant, and having abortions, that feels more like murder to me than if a woman was young and couldn't deal with having a baby or even giving it up. Everyone has their own variation of opinion, and out of those people some are very close minded and ignorant. It's your body, you do what you want with it, and don't listen to what everyone else thinks you should do. That's how I see it.

JUST BECAUSE SOME BELIEVE ABORTION IS MURDER DOESN'T MAKE IT MURDER. That is why people can do it, and that's why their opinion doesn't matter.

The fact that you do not believe the TRUTH does not make any less TRUE!!!
A life is a life,if you end that life it's 1 of 2 things, suicide or murder, and I've not seen any studies on prenatal suicide!!
Find and watch a movie called "the silent scream" and you will see how abortion really affects the unborn!!

see for your self!!!

It is legal, and I don't think it matters because they will always oppose it because they are nosey and like to tell people what to do with their lives and their bodies.
If it's still inside, it is hers. Case closed.
People do not seem to understand that if you oppose one's belief, that you do not have to live your life that way but you also need to realize that you have no right to tell someone what they're doing is wrong just because personally YOU feel it is.
If someone opposes it for themselves, you have that right.
If you oppose someELSE doing it, you DO NOT have a right to tell them what to do.
Abortion is here to stay. Roe vs. Wade will most likely never be overturned, but so far there are 7 U.S. states that will protect women's abortion rights either way. I'm sure more states will follow.

I am opposed to abortion. I am more opposed to bedroom police. If a woman feels she has made a mistake she needs to make the decision as quickly as possible (morning after pills are definitely ok) and get on with it while it is still a private matter.
