Many of the wars in Asia have been about governments or other religions trying to contain religious movements, or about religious people trying to assert their rights. India and Pakistan have fought several wars that are mostly about Hinduism vs Islam, there is a civil war in Sri Lanka that is between Hindus and Buddhists, the invasion of Afghanistan was an attempt to contain a radical Muslim sect, and the wars in Indochina were in part about defending faith against communist regimes. In WWII, the western world went to war with Japan to defend Asia "for Christianity." The Phillpines has an ongoing Muslim insurgency, and Russia is battling Muslims in Chechnya and elsewhere. Both China and Russia are very uneasy about the rise of Muslim nations on their borders, making Central Asia a likely area for the next wars.
