The law firm that had the contraverial 'Life is Short. Get a Divorce' billboard up has now taken to advertising on the sides of trucks. The advertising has a woman in lingerie and a man's muscular body exposed. Do you think they're making light of a serious problem Americans have, or do you think people are making too much of an innocent advertisment?

I'm asking because I'm curious what other people think about it. It's fun to get others opinions about such topics.

There are situations where divorce is appropriate, but in this case, these lawyers are just a bunch of vultures looking to bottom feed.

They are trying to imply that a good marriage is one where your spouse is hot, and if they aren't hot, get out and move on.

Since we live in America, they have the right to advertise like that, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I would absolutely not put any of my money in their pockets either, as their ads are in poor taste, and promote something that we, as a society, should not be proud of.

In the old days, when divorce was a lot less common, and not as easy to get, it forced people to communicate more and better, and to work through problems. I am in no way advocating for changing laws around divorce, but I do think if it was harder to get, it would force people to make smarter choices about getting married, and force them to communicate better when they hit a rocky point. The easy way out is not always the best way out.

I think that people are making too much of an advertisement (although, I wouldn't necessarily call it innocent).

The Ad is racey and will cause controversy. That's true - and I'm sure that's what the lawfirm wants. All the attention on that Ad surely got them more business.

Remember, no publicity is bad publicity.

Sure, America might have a high divorce rate, but if people are confident enough in their own relationships then a billboard wouldn't really make a difference. And if it does, then I think they have a whole other problem to work through than just an Advertisment.

We live in a FAST FOOD world.
Dinner, lunch breakfast, divorce is all on the run.
Convience. Our lives are too busy with work.
We spend no time at home... relaxing... figuring out what is best for us. Fast food isn't good for us... and yet we eat it... why? cuz its convient.
We divorce... not really because our marriages should never have had happened... there was LOVE in the begining....but because we didn't find the time for the little things to keep it together. The LOVE 'today' fades due to Convience.
If we can't fix somethiing.... we throw it away.
Same goes with marriages. If it takes too long to fix something... throw it away!
Its way too easier to find someone new....combined with the LUST drive! The power of Lust is great for divorce lawyers, temptation for the easy route is always been there. Its just more attainable today. Convience. But in the end... you'll be bored with your newer life... and soon will be seeking another new lust.... because the neglected problems from the newer relationship built up so high (like the last one) that its not worth fixing....
(Throw away society)
divorce again.

You know divorce is a very serious and damaging phenomenon that has been made light of today. Only those who have gone through it really know the pain and devastation tied to divorce, especially the children of divorcees (who I feel are the biggest victims). This is a huge problem in America and nowadays, all over the world.

So are they making light of a serious problem? Heck yeah! I doubt that the company is advertising because they care so much about potential divorcees vs their annual revenues. It's sad but it's all about the money. At the end of the day, it's the divorcees that lose out and the company goes to the bank smilin'...

People are making too much of an innocent advertisement. The world thrives off of money. Individuals know their values and morals, so why should an advertisement like that be taken seriously. I believe their are bigger concerns that are currently facing our world today, that are more important, than an advertisement about what someone thinks of divorce.

I think if you are in a happy marriage it won't affect you. If you are in an unhappy marriage you should get divorced and the billboard should not affect you. I thought it was a clever and funny ad campaign especially for the Los Angeles area. If it is making light of a serious problem it is also drawing attention to it, by showing the frivolous reasons people get divorced for, which means they should really think about why they get married to begin with.

The latter. In general, I think people spend way too much time looking for things to become indignant about. So what if it's making light of a serious issue? If you're offended by an ad, then don't give that company your business. But this idea that if something personally offends you, it's a legitimate course of action to demand it be removed from public view is absurd.

I think the statement makes a good point, and there are people that should get divorces. I think it is tacky. There are a lot of couples that can and should save their marriages, too!It is up to them to decide whether they should get one or not but I think to advertise something like this is painfully wrong.
Some people will say, well it's true so why not advertise? Well, its just not classy and it's making assumptions about a large group of people.

I dont think divorce is right, but now a days its definitely not wrong, its almost expected. I think they are making light of a serious problem, but no one else in america seems to care.

Its like the "popular" thing to do now is marry young and divorce. My grandparents were married when they were 18 and just in april was their 40th anniversary. You don't really see that anymore... now a days people are lucky if they stay together past 5 years.

Good lord! I've never seen this ad--thank goodness. It is far too glib and insensitive. Divorce causes pain that lasts for years afterward, sometimes for life. How can they treat such a hurting problem so callously--as if you're just interested in the meat market?
