Golden Rule or Platinum Rule...what do you live by?

For all of those who do not know the difference:
Golden Rule...treat others as how you want to be treated....
Platinum Rule...treat others as they want to be treated..

Golden rule stereotypes people....i dont want to be treated the same as everyone else....i might not like how the masses are treated....so how is that not being a follower???

I go by the Golden Rule. I treat people with the respect that I would want anyone else to give me. But at the same time, I only give respect where respect is due. I can't have respect for people who don't have respect for themselves.

I have always been a proponent of the Golden Rule, but I have never heard of your "Platinum Rule" before. It sounds like a good idea, too, and I doubt that the two of them would REALLY conflict with eachother all that often.
The important thing is to be thoughtful, considerate and respectful of others - not splitting hairs about definitions.

Whatever you want to call it, I try to be kind and considerate to all I come in contact with. I think that is the main point of any rule to live by especially these you mentioned. Just treat people with dignity and respect and they will usually treat you the same.

The Golden Rule is what I live by (it's unfortunate that so many others do not).

The Platinum Rule would make one a follower--a weak person--one who can't think for him/herself.

I try to be fair and do unto others as they would do to me, but unfortunately, so many people have it in their minds they are all that and a bag of chips, no matter what you say or do, they are right! I at least try to be kind and understanding with all, and let me tell you, it isn't easy!
