Rule out craigslist and yahoo answers, their terms of service strictly prohibit advertising for affiliate marketing.
The best way is to build a content driven website with at least 30 good pages of content about the products you plan to advertise.
Write articles and submit them to ezinearticles for your product.
A blog is also another excellent way to advertise for free.
Also build your mailing list, the best way to sell to affiliates is to build some sort of confidence in what you have to offer. You dont sell many people for the first time online, you have to build yourself up.
There arent any really good free websites that arent already overrun with affiliate marketers like you who spam them to death.
Either pay per click with google or yahoo or build out a website, or blog with really good content, even if its about the product you sell with affiliate marketing.
For long term success dont spam Y answers, craigslist or send out spam emails. Use that time and energy to build your mailing lists and produce quality content for your website.

There is an amazing amount of information there for internet marketers. It has a monthly fee of 30 something dollars. I plan on sticking around there for a while. The forum there is awesome. Since it is private, other internet marketers are much more open with suggestions and help. There are some great threads there about "Bum Marketing" (free adverstising methods). One is specifically about Squidoo and how to make it work right.

Maybe I'll see you there.

Well, as someone who makes said greetings cards. That means on average it will cost you 1.50 for every sale. Will you make any profit? On top of that you could get a dry run. How much will you be charging for postage and packaging? Some people don't want to pay a fair rate. What about stock? How much stock will you carry? Will you be making to order? You need to look at some peoples business sites and investigate the marketing methods that they are using. Can think of plenty of other questions but it is not really approprate to discuss your putative business in this forum. beond the superficial level.

You have to pay attention to 'natual trafiic', that is 'not paid traffic' like AdWord (really don't like it). There is several ways to drive natural traffic, such as seo, forum, blog, and lot more.
