I am afraid that US security is not good enough to prevent a Nuclear holocaust from happening on US soil. Who thinks this will happen, and how do you think it will happen? How soon do you think it will happen? Who or what country do you think will be responsible? This is a question that a lot of Americans prepare themselves everyday for. What is your insight?

Tom Clancy had a plot in one of his books where a Japanese commercial pilot flew a plane into the Capitol building, killing the President and most of Congress. then we had 9/11.
Stephen Coontz has a plot in the book "Liberty" where nuclear weapons are smuggled into the country in cargo containers.
Millions of containers come into this country every day, the vast majority uninspected. Nuclear weapons are missing from some of the countries in the former Soviet Union.
So yes, it's possible. One nuclear weapon detonated in New York harbor would wipe out a signifcant portion of our refining capacity, the financial district of New York, all of the docking facilities on both sides of the river, and maybe 250,000 people or more. It would also cause every ship not unloaded, no matter what port, to be sent far off shore until inspection facilities could be set up, thus desroying our import market. Of course, that would put Walmart completely out of business, maybe not a bad thing ;-)
As far as i can see, nothing is being done to address this serious threat.
This could happen today.
The most likely culprit would of course be Islamic terrorists, although the inept recent terror plots in New York and New Jersey seem to rule out "homegrown" terrorists, and of course, no intervention by those in the US would be required.
A "false flag" operation would also be possible, but I would only be speculating as to what nation would do that.
Meanwhile, everyone is up in arms over illegal Mexicans. I think our priorities vis-a-vis terrorism are a little screwed up.

I think it's possible. An enemy would not need missiles. Blowing up a "small" nuclear weapon in a truck on a city street or on a boat in a harbor would do plenty of damage.
We're doing what we can to prevent it. Although not nearly enough on the borders.
I think it's perhaps more likely than not that one will be used in the US in the next five to ten years.
I hope to God I'm wrong.

I don't think we are going to have Nuclear Holocaust soon (wouldn't that be total nuclear destruction of the country) but with any nation with Nuclear technology it is very possible for a Nuclear Accident to decimate a part of this country .

Yes, but it won't be the kind of nuclear exchange we all feared during the cold war. It will be a simultaneous exploding of nuclear devices in major American cities. It won't devestate the whole nation physically, but it will bring us to our knees. How could it not? We barely made it through one natural disaster in Louisiana.

It will happen. I believe it will happen soon and that is why the government is working on plans for what to do during a decapitating assault on our country. That is also why shields are in the works. I believe it will come from Iran/terrorists especially if they take over Iraq.

It's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on it anytime soon. More likely a "dirty bomb" would be set off by Islamic Facists if they are able to get the materials into the country.

I don't worry about things like this. You have to learn - in this unstable world - to take life day by day and not drive yourself insane worrying about what might happen.
Do I think it will happen? Yes. Do I wonder when? No.

Let's hope not. But with the miniaturization of weaponry, a bomb could be slipped in easily.

I think people need to quit worrying about what could happen and live their lives...I could get hit by a bus, but I don't walk around all day worrying about it.
