Oxygen deprivation to the brain. The technical name for this condition is cerebral hypoxia, and it is rarely listed as the cause of death of a death certificate, although it may be in certain cases of suffocation or drowning.

More to the point, the brain is not functioning ergo life support which begins in the brain is not happening. Even in cardiac arrest, the symptoms may manifest in the heart, but it is the brain function that recieves the messages from the heart indicating failure.

Stoppage of brain function due to lack of oxygen. Oxygen stopped flowing to their brain in enough quantities to keep it alive, which in turn caused it to stop functioning. Once the brain stops functioning, the person is dead. Also, the brain keeps other vital organs such as the heart and lungs working, so once the brain is gone, other vital organs will fail as well.

Brain failure.

Every organ in the body supports the brain. This is proven by the fact that we humans can replace, repair, or do with out every organ in our body.. except our brain.

Hope this answers the question.
