The first man on the Moon was Neil Armstrong. But he was not a scientist; he was a test pilot. The first (and only, so far) scientist to go the the Moon was Harrison Schmitt, who was a geologist on Apollo 17.

Harrison Schmitt the lunar module pilot on Apollo 17 was a geologist. He was the only scientist in the astronaut corps at the time. He was not originally assigned to that mission but when the scientific community started crabbing about the failure of NASA to send a geologist on any of the missions to the moon, the guy assigned to the mission got the bad news. He was bumped in favor of Schmitt. Schmitt went on to spend three days on the moon in the Taurus-Lithrow valley. He alone was the only scientist to explore the moon.
