The answer is basically the same. I've already explained how we use functions. Now, let's see a very simple example of how relations can be used. Suppose you are a car dealer. Then, you have to keep records of the cars your customers bought. Then, you have a relation: to each customer, there can correspond several cars, not just one. So we don't have a function, but a relation. Something like that:

Mr Smith - A Ford Station Wagon and a Honda
Mrs Lane - A ford Fiesta.
Mr Klein - A Mercedes Benz, 3 Porsches, 7 Ferraris

And so on.
