You mean what WERE his beliefs. If you study his words and actions, you will see that he believed in big central government and using it to solve the country's problems. Thus we are now saddled with hundreds of welfare programs and entitlements that are bankrupting the country and its taxpayers.

In spite of his wealth and privilege, he was pretty down to Earth.

He knew that his job was not to do anything less than than what the people wanted. He may have steered foreign policy a tad. But never more than the people were willing to go. Otherwise, he would not have been elected to office 4 times!

He was committed to what was right for all men. He was not a respector of race. He believed that men needed to feel valued, regardless their position. A good look at the New Deal shows that he saw men valued themselves in accordance with what they could contribute to others.

During WWII, he fought to defend democracy, of course!

At that time the dollar and US Bonds were backed by gold and had high value. Gold getting into the hands of the enemy would devalue the currency. Now the US Treasury Bonds are backed by nearly 1 trillion in bad debt that was purchased by the US Treasury from failing investment banks, lenders and brokerage houses. On the domestic and international market the US Treasury bonds are considered worthless. Now who is the real crook.

The only belief he had was the aggrandizement of himself and his belief that he knew more about everything than anyone else and could and should make all the decisions.

Of course, he couldn't and we have paid for his arrogance ever since.
