"Devoted To You"

It was another beautiful June day. Sunshine MacGillicutty, girlfriend of U.S.Marshal Matt Dillon, decided to take a stroll around her little farm. She walked down to the lake and took in the beautiful sight:http://www.danish-schnapps-recipes.com/images/landscape-lake-wild-flowers.jpg
Sunshine loved this spot. Today it was especially nice to be here..... Her boyfriend Matt Dillon, was out of town on business in Topeka. She missed him. Matt was her love...... He was her life.
After her husband had died, she often wondered,(6.) "When Will I Be Loved?" With his passing, she had often said (1.)" Bye Bye Love , hello lonliness." All that changed the day she and Matt laid eyes on eachother.

She had come to Dodge as a way of spicing up her life. Dodge City was known as an exciting town in the Old West.

He had taken her breath away. She had met many a (3.) Bird Dog since her husband's death. Matt was no bird dog. He was a man among men. The more she got to know him, the more she liked him. He was a man of honor,integrity and compassion. He also was a man with a girlfriend.....Miss Kitty Russell, owner and manager of the LongBranch saloon:

Before Matt ever knew of Sunshine's feelings for him, he had broken off with Kitty. He had told Sunshine, "I am (4.) Devoted To You. I want nothing more than to be the man by your side." ( The authoress sighs~~~~~~~)

Matt:" Wouldn't you rather have ME hold you?"
He had returned from his trip early.
They fell into each other's arms.
And for the rest of the afternoon and evening, that is where they stayed.

I hollered for my old bird dog, thought I'd take him and myself for a drive up into the mountains. I took an old logging road that brought many memories of the times you and I had traveled this road. I was so devoted to you, I wonder if you ever new? We would head to that spot, the green grassy knoll and lay out the old patched quilt. You'd be fussing about, worrying about folks coming by til I kissed you and stroked your hair and gazed into your beautiful eyes. These days of late have been very lonely,but when the sadness becomes too great all I have to do is dream of that summer I spent with you. I wonder when will I be loved with such abandonment again. I hope and I pray that you sometimes think of me and those trips to the mountain, bye bye love

I was told all I have to do is dream and you would be back at my side once again. Sadness and despair will vanish, along with the black cloud that’s hanging over me. At first the dreams were easy, but now they don’t come as often. I’m left lost and alone in a loneliness that grows deeper and more powerful everyday.

Til I kissed you I never knew how much I was going to depend on that special bond that it creates. And looking into your soulful hazel eyes was enough to get my pulse racing. You didn’t have to use words to tell me what you wanted as your eyes did it all for you. I could tell when you were happy, scared and content.

You weren’t a bird dog that’s for sure. Instead, you were a big beautiful Sheepdog that refused to herd. Remember when you were tested for your herding instincts and the assignment was to herd the ducks? You wouldn’t budge. Nope, wasn’t going to happen. It was absolutely hilarious that the only dog at the trial that refused to do herd, was the one which should have been born with the skill ingrained in him. I didn’t look at you as a failure though, but as a gentle soul, who didn’t want to hurt the ducks.

We had some great adventures together. It didn’t matter if it was walking in the neighbor hood, going to Dog Beach or just going for a car ride, as long as we were together we both were happy. I was totally devoted to you, as you were to me.

Oh baby, it’s so hard for me to believe that you’re gone. Trust me, I didn’t want to say “Bye, Bye Love”, but when you got sick, and there was no hope for recovery, that’s what I had to do. I slept on the kitchen floor, holding you in my arms that last night. The whole time I continued to pray for a miracle that never happened. Now all that’s left are memories that are receding slowly into dark cavities of my mind. I wonder when will I be loved as deeply as you had loved me, and I you. I suspect it will not occur until we are reunited in another lifetime. I miss you my friend.
