They are on a small tree in my front yard. Will they go away or make it their new home?

Leave them alone, they'll move on tomorrow. Bees are diappearing in the U.S. and we need pollinators. If they scare you call a beekeeper to remove them.

Bee swarm trivia. Do you know you can gently put your hand inside the swarm without getting stung ? The first time I did it was incredible. It feels like your putting your hand in a warm fizzy liquid. If your bees hang around long enough for a bee keeper to show up, ask him if you can try. Spray the swarm liberally with sugar water and wait about 10 minutes to calm them. Never use smoke on a swarm of bees as suggested, it will freak out a swarm. Smoke is used to calm bees when there in a hive. RScott

It it is a real swarm, they are probably just resting. They are looking for a suitable new home and if you tree isn't it, they move on. However, there are beekeepers who'd love to come collect the big family! Don't kill the bees.........we need all we can get. Contact County Extension Service for beekeeper names......sometimes Dep't of Ag will also have names.

They are not interesting in stinging you, they want a new home for their queen, so let them be.

Contact your local extension office and ask for a list of local Apiculturists (beekeepers). Call one of them to come and collect the bees. They will smoke them into a hive and remove them from your property and install them somewhere where they can find plenty of polen for making honey.

it does my heart good to see that you are seeking advice and not just blasting them with a bug spray.

It's also good that so many answers are in support of the bees.. they are in fact essential to our survival and are declining in numbers.. leave them alone.. consult a beekeeper.. all good advice!

Long live the bees! Yahooo!
