Right now I can't swing the price for a new laptop. Don't need a lot of bells and whistles, just enough to run a few programs and store a few documents. Would I have to increase the RAM as well? Thanks for your help.

Lots of bigger companies basically give away their older laptops (or charge very little for them). We have P3 one's with 512 MB RAM we just cleared out to staff and their kids maybe call a few companies ask for the IT manager and see if you get lucky to get one that is at least XP capable.

Don't bother with upgrading, the parts will be hard to come by, so pricey, and then you need to pay to have them installed, unless you know what you are doing.

Look for a laptop with no less than 40gb HDD, 256 Ram, and a fairly decent processor. You should not have a problem running your programs with this.

A laptop of this spec will cost you no more than £150, even cheaper 2nd hand.

I don't think upgrading that much is possible.
You need at least 512 Mb raam for a laptop 1 gig for a desktop.
At least 40-80 gig hard drive for laptop. And at least 175 gig for a desktop.
It would cost more to upgrade then to buy a new laptop.

As old as the machine is, you will probably be unable to find parts (memory or a larger hard drive) for it. You would need to increase both. It is not worth putting the couple hundred dollars you would need into upgrading it. Better to save that towards a new one, as even after the upgrade it is still going to be ancient.

But if you want to try, check ebay to see if anyone is selling memory or hard drives for that laptop. (Good luck)

That's an old machine and not worth upgrading as I doubt you could find the parts for it.

If you can find the RAM, try to get some but I wouldn't recommend spending too much money on it.

definite, that's actual a stable concept. once you place interior the interest it could ask you the place you want to place it, merely specify the hot force. so some distance as velocity, of direction faster is better. 5400 may be the backside i could pass, 7200 could be stable. however the relationship velocity (USB1 or 2, Firewire) will probable make the main distinction.
