There's a 25% chance of miscarriage when removing an IUD during pregnancy. I'm not quite sure of what the effects on the baby are if it's left in until delivery, but I've heard of some doctors leaving them in. You also have a higher chance of ectopic pregnancies with them, so if you think you're pregnant, you should go to the doctor right away to find out.
Also, please don't believe that you can't get pregnant with an IUD in place like some posters have mentioned...I got pregnant with the Mirena IUD and a transvaginal ultrasound showed it was still in place. I decided to remove it and I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow.

I recently considered getting an IUD and did a bit of research on them. They now offer a much safer IUD called Mirena that is made of plastic. The copper ones are considered a little dangerous and are not recommended anymore. There is also a condom that is made of lambskin for people that are allergic to latex. They sell them in Walgreens and several other pharmacies. You should speak with your doctor because you could be experiencing miscarriage. I highly suggest switching to Mirena. BTW the IUD releases hormones that thin your uterine lining and mucous and literally tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant. Good luck

It could...but just having an IUD used as birth control causes miscarriages by thinning the lining of the uterus..that's what it's supposed to do
