Lidge is a closer and Wheeler is a set-up man. Lidge has had some bad times during the past year but has a much better up-side than Wheeler as a closer. I think you go back to Lidge and give him another shot at closing. If he is not up to the task this time around go look for another closer but leave Wheeler in the set-up role.

The problem with Lidge is that he only has two pitches. When he was newer on the scene, hitters couldn't disginguish b/w his fastball and slider. It seems like in the past couple of years he has really began telegraphing his pitches. If you really know a lot about the game you can tell when he is getting his grip on the ball if it will be a fastball or slider. Also, he started getting into the habit of dropping his elbow a little when throwing his slider which caused him to get under his pitch and leave it hanging....the result of which are blasts like Albert Pujols. I think it is a mechanics problem with Lidge. He seems to be getting his skills back, and I think right around the All Star break Lidge will return to the closers role.
As for Wheeler. He is NOT a closer, like so many people have said, he is a set up man. Although, in the few games the Stros are winning in the 8th or 9th (except the heart breaker last night) he has done a relatively good job filling in in the closer role. I think that he will return to the set up role and Lidge will step up in the closer spot.
Hopefully the Stros can turn it around and catch up in the TERRIBLE National League Central this year.

I'm quite vocal about the fact that Wheeler is not a closer at all and should not have the duties really. He is a good setup guy but is prone to give up 2-3 runs on occassion. Lidge should have had the job back weeks ago. How the hell else are you going to instill any confidence back in the guy and/or possibly get any trade value for him(you know they are thinking about it). I like Lidge a lot, and I think he will return to form. I really want to see him succeed along with the rest of the team. What a heartbreaker yesterday. I love the Astros but man, it's hard to watch that sometimes.

i think Brad Lidge will be a closer for another team by the end of the trading period. Wheeler will not give up the closer position any time soon.

It should'nt be long before he gets the closer role back. Dan Wheeler aint consistent enough, nor does he have the stuff that a closer requires.

Well, he does not have Scott Podsednik to hit a walk off this weekend (game 2 - 05 WS). And the white sox are just pathetic right now. So I say put him in this weekend. There is not better time to find out if he still has it.

He may be ready, but Dan Wheeler isn't ready to loose it, no need to change what works.
