I have some black hairs surrounding my nipples, been there since around 18 (when I started BCPs, still on them) and have gotten more numerous as I've gotten older (28 now). It is strange because I am a very fair skinned, natural blonde, but these hairs are coarse, and BLACK. I was told by my GYN this is probably just from the Italian side in my family and that if I had a hormone problem I would probably have unusual hair growth in other places as well. I have a feeling it's from my birth control, but I just want to make sure this is normal, or at least that you've seen patients with this same problem. It makes me very uncomfortable and I feel like I am the only one with this problem. I consider myself pretty attractive, except for this. Also, what kind of doctor can remove this? A Dermatologist?

Thank you, MOM KNOWS EVERYTHING. Well, I am glad to know I am not alone in this...but where would get this electrolysis done and does it work after one time or does it need to be repeated? Thanks!

It's not unusual for woman to have hair (even dark hair) around their nipples while most woman have blonde hair or no hair it's not unusual. You can pluck them and it won't hurt anything. A hormonal upset such as PCOS can cause unusual hair growth but if you have not been diagnosed with PCOS I would not be concerned. As far as the birth control I doubt if that is what contributed to the hair growth. I personally have a few stray dark hairs that appear on my breast and I just pluck them. If you are seriously concerned talk with your doctor.

Brooke this is one of the wonderful things that just isnt covered in any of the womens books that I have read. You wont likely see the topic covered in magazines either. In fact women really dont talk about this at all. A lot of women will have these type of hairs growing around the nipples. A lot of women will deny it but use the tweezers on em anyway.

I am not sure if there is a permanent way of removing them you could ask at a place that does electrolysis.

You are definitely not the only woman in the world to have this happen to them. We just dont want anyone to know we do.

Use the tweezers when you need to.

Good Luck

I'm not an MD, but I've had this too. Electrolysis can remove the hairs, if they are not actually in the aureole area of the nipple, but in the regular skin around it. You dont' even need a doctor.

It's not unusual...
I myself had that, but i use the cold wax to remove them.
I apply that only on the hair, not on the nipple
