floating poo is not very healthy - not sure why I think it has to do with the amount of gas in it! I remember seeing it on 'You are what you eat'

It probably had to do with the density of the poo. For example it you ate more greens then your poo might be less dense and be more prone to floating, just like an apple floats. But if you eat alot of meat and stuff like that then you poo might sink just like chicken breasts sink.

If your poo floats you have too much fat /oil in your diet. Oil and fat are immiscible with water and lighter and therefore it floats. Poo that sinks has a lot of fibre and or iron which is a good sign.

Floaty poo - too much fat in your diet
Bitty poo - Not enough fibre
Really dark poo - too much iron / protein
Too light - not enough iron / protein
Red poo - haemoroids or you like beetroot!

Actually, I think floating poo is healthier. I believe that poo floats when it has more roughage (fiber, undigested plant material) in it. If you are eating sufficient fruits and vegetables, poo should be soft and float.

In response to the previous answer, virtually all the fat in your diet is absorbed before it gets out of your small intestine, so poo shouldn't have fat in it.

floating poo is healthier it means that the fibre content in your food is right, if your poo is sinking then you need to increase your fibre intake,

It has to do with the fat content, fat is lighter than water, and therefore floats, poo with lower fat content will sink.

Consistency and density. More fibers will help it to float.
Good mastication also helps. Execises as well.
