They can usually tell around 5 months so they should be able to tell.

Congratulations!
Well yes you usually are able to see the sex of the baby.
I heard of an old wives tale which is supposed to be 93.5% accurate but anyway there are a few things taht might be able to help you find out the sex of the baby by yourself without waiting for an ultrasound.
t Could Be a Boy!
According to old wives' tales, a number of things indicate that you might be having a boy: carrying high and out front, conceiving at the time of ovulation (and in a position involving deep penetration), eating a potassium-rich diet, having mild morning-only sickness, a fetal heartbeat that's less than 130 beats per minute, and looking more beautiful. As the old saying goes, "Boys give beauty, girls take it away."
It Could be Girl
According to old wives' tales, a number of things indicate that you might be having a girl: carrying low and wide, conceiving just before the time of ovulation (and in a position involving shallow penetration), eating a magnesium-rich diet, having severe morning sickness (that can last all day long), a fetal heartbeat that's more than 140 beats per minute, and looking less beautiful. We're pretty sure that Angelina Jolie (mom of Shiloh) would disagree with the old saying, "Boys give beauty, girls take it away."

Not necessarily! At 16 weeks, the external genital organs are fully formed and gender can be distinguished! My friend was able to tell the sex of her baby at 18 weeks, it was still and in the right position, so it was no problem. They can make mistakes, but very rarely with today's technology. Good luck if you want to know!

No typically they can tell what the sex of the baby is between 16-20 weeks. If the baby cooperates that is.

Doctors usually preform an "anatomy scan" between weeks 18 and 22. They check out the organs, take measurements, and, if the baby is cooperative, can usually tell the sex at that time. Most ultrasound techs and docs are good about not giving an answer if they are unsure (at least mine were).
Good luck! It is such an amazing thing to see!!

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BABY!
Yes they will normally see the gender as early as 18 weeks. If you want something fun to do before the ultrasound though you can try this.... Look at your tummy if it is low, it's normally a boy and girls high . . . which was right on both of my children. There is also the ring test where you suspend the woman's wedding ring on a thread over your belly. If it goes in circles, it 's a girl. If it swings back and forth, it's a boy. I tried this on all of my pregnant friends including myself and it was always right. To make sure before doing this, suspend the ring on your palm without moving the thread and then in your husbands. Take note of the movements and then do it over your tummy. If the ring does the movement of your husbands pattern then it is a boy and vice versa if it is a girl. Then see if the ultrasound confirms this :)

Whatever you do don't live by what the test say! Don't count on any of them being accurate until you see the baby. Some tests are right but just as many are wrong. So with out the perfect view you only have a educated guess.

Nope -- my co-worker is 18 weeks pregnant and found out what she's having last night!! ITS A BOY!!!! =)
I guess if the baby is laying in the right position and is not hiding its "private parts" from your view, it's very possible to tell the sex of the child!!!
GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS!!!! =)

Well, i'll be 19 weeks on monday and i have the 'ultrasound' that day too! The tip that they told me was to drink a soda right before the ultrasound to make sure the baby is up and alert and not sleeping with his or her legs closed! Hopefully you'll be able to know, and hopefully on Monday i'll know if its a boy or a girl! :):)

I always heard 21-22 weeks, but evidently your doctor thinks they will be able to tell, so I assume the baby will be developed enough. Good luck.
