My best friend for 8 years has always had a problem with waking up in the mornings. This started way back around middle school or high school and still is affected to this day at age 23. Mostly, i'll go wake him up, and he gives automatic responses to my questions, even open his eyes, and talks to me for a bit, but just doesn't get up and get around and get the day started. Usually I have to keep this act up for 30 minutes to several hours. Any idea what this could be, and how to solve this problem? Thanks.

There are no adverse consequences when he just does not get up after having a conversation with him, for example. I know my mother called us ONCE to get up. If we didn't, then we suffered whatever consequences there were, like being late for school or work. We shaped up pretty fast.
