good question. though i know some newer model fridges do have lights in the freezer. Most likely it is because when the first fridges were made, there was no light that could work in the extreme cold. So the lack of a light just became the standard. People were so used to it, that when lights that would work became available, it didn't seem like an important feature in most fridges. Just a theory, but it makes sense to me.

I don't buy the whole temperature change idea. I have lighbulbs on the outside of my house and they do not burst in the winter. I also have a lightbulb inside the oven, which is also okay at 400 degrees.
I also have a light in my freezer.
I would say the reason their are no lightbulbs in some freezers is so the manufacturer can save on costs

Well, good question. I think the first reason would be that it's too cold in the freezer. The second reason would probably be that we don't get into our freezers as much as the fridge.

Well I dont think the glass would take well to the cold.

Plus most folk look in the fridge for a midnight snack, not the freezer.

Because you access the fridge a lot more frequently than the freezer and tend to have a much wider variety of food products in it.

Because the hottness of the light and the coldness of the freezer would cause the light to explode.

Maybe because we open our fridge more often in the dark. Really, I'm unsure of the manufacturer's reasoning behind this phenomenon.
