Wow... Your stories bring back lots of memories. I can just see you doing that.
In 85, I graduated from high school and we all took a trip to fly to CA for 2 days. The tickets cost $10.00 each because it was Southwest Airlines inaugural opening in Phoenix and it was our first time flying. We went to knotts berry farm and rode the scariest rides we could find.
Later that summer I went on my 3rd trip to the Black River. It was the first one where i had to guide my buddies in and back out without the assistance of an adult.. It was a total adventure.

summer of '85, i finally turn 6. perhaps this is the time i can recall memories about my childhood. i am playing with my friends, attempts to climb a guava tree and a mango tree, have an afternoon nap for 2-3 hours and wake up late afternoon to play again. we don't have t.v. yet nor a computer that time and our house was still the typical bahay kubo with a radio playing phil collins, asin, apo hiking society, vst and co., hotdogs, freddie aguilar, and other opm, air supply and beatles sometimes, and songs i only hear now on fm during sundays. my father used to take me in calaguas island--those white sands of camarines norte enjoying the clear water of the sea.
i am not really sure why daylights during those times were brighter than the sunniest day today.

I was visiting a friend in Morristown, New Jersey.
We went to New York, and saw my first Broadway play. I saw the Twin Towers. I went to the Rainbow Room at the top of Rockefeller Center and had a virgin strawberry daiquiri (I thought I was cool).
I saw Times Square for the first time. The Statue of Liberty had scaffolding on it, so could not go up in it (they were refurbishing the old girl at the time).
I went to Pennsylvania and saw the Liberty Bell.
I went to Connecticut and saw beautiful countryside.
It was my first airplane ride, and a nice gentleman on the plane told me about everything I was seeing on the ground on the way there.
It was a beautiful summer...I was 15.

I was 13, living in south-western Nova Scotia, Canada. I spent that summer working in the hay-field and missing my first real boyfriend. (He moved away at the end of that school year.) I remember begging my mom to allow me to colour my hair after that summer. The sun had brought out all the red in my hair. Between the carroty hair and the sun-induced freckles, I felt like that kid on the cover of MAD magazine.

I was home in San Francisco most of the year, but I visited one of my aunts in New York City 2 weeks that summer. She had a heart attack while I was there, so I spent much time in a hospital visiting her.
