I've been watching closely and it does seem that the surge is having some good effects. I hope it continues,it only has a chance now because Bush, Cheney have been put on the sidelines and competent people are now running the show. Gates is an excellent Secretary Of defense and is doing a great job.He staying out of the spot light,but is cleaning up the cluster**** left from his predecessor. If this strategy works he'll be the main reason and will never get the credit. I am a Democrat that opposed the war from the beginning but I'm first and foremost an American and I pray now with some competence people in the right positions that this mess can be clean up and Iraq can create a new country for themselves.

The "surge" is working because to date, there have been no illegal Mexican aliens entering this country via Iraq.

In that sense, the surge has been a raging success.

In every other sense however, the surge hasn't worked, but only the most blindly trusting of our citizenry have expected it to.

And I don't see the 18,000 Iraqi doctors who have fled Iraq returning anytime soon either!

Of course you are a political cultist who hopes to turn these kinds of events into some kind of political gain. Since we know that the terror network does post red herrring questions on this site yours could be just that. The question that often comes to my mind when I see stories like this is how courageous are the Iraqis who are trying to build a county and must face brutal assassins on a daily basis. They are out there in the public eye trying to build a country whereas the others are hidden, wear masks and killed by ambush. I am impressed with that kind of courage and its says someting to the committment that the Iraqi middle class and moderate politicians who are trying to build a country. And its takes courage to depend on the US who can only sustain something for a short period of time and then the cowards and political people want to leave them in the lurch. If this government survives it will be much more impressive than the American Revolution. To bad they don't have a better ally; not the US military they are tops, its the American people who are flaky and cowardly.

This war would have been over with if the politicians would have stayed out of it.

Our boys have 7 rules before they can shoot back. I say let our military looses and let them do what they were trained to do. When I was in, we were told our job was to make the other guy die for his country and to break things so they cannot be fixed.

Well, unless they find there was WMD and imminent threat when we invaded or can reverse teh fact that Iraq didn't have anything to do with 9/11, nothing will work.
