any advice on growing pink lady apple trees????

Question

my son found a couple of sprouting seeds in his apple a few weeks ago so i humoured him as he is onlty little and gave him a pot with that coconut compost stuff in,not really thinking it would grow.now we have 2 strong little apple treelets in a pot and im not even slightly green fingered so any advice on what to do next would be fab!cheers.

Oh WOW! my favorite apple.

Now that you have them growing, you'll need to get them into soil.....a pot will do. Then get them outside. At first have them in semi shade and then gradually get them into the sun. Eventually they'll need to get into the ground. These will be BIG trees so plan ahead.

If you are in cold winter area, mulch around the roots......add a dry blanket of straw, pine needles, even dry grass clippings once the weather has turned cold. This helps retain soil moisture, keeps the soil from freezing and thawing which is tough on small plants and protects the plants from wind damage.

If they survive for a year, there's a good chance they will go on to become trees......with proper care.

I'm going to have to watch those seeds more carefully.

Although the seeds came from a pink lady apple it is likely that the parent tree was cross pollinated. Therefore there is no guarantee that you will get a pink lady apple from it's seedlings. You will have to wait about 8 years for it to fruit as it has not been grafted onto a root stock. Additionally pink lady apples are generally grown in a warmer country then here. I have not ever seen this variety available from a nursery.

Great advice get hold of some pink lady apple seeds soak in hot water overnight, keep under damp cotton wool until they sprout, then plant them. watch for snakes as adam and eve might make an appearance. all the best i have done this with tree seeds and the soaking in hot water really works

There was a little girl who put a dry pea in her nose and finished up with it sprouting and causing infection. But apple seed that survive digestion will come down with your droppings.

Sorry to disappoint you but apple trees grown from seed are unlikely to produce the apple that they come from. apple trees are grown from cuttings grafted on root stock,but with a bit of luck you could get a decent apple,i wish you the best of luck.
