Everyone has had outbursts before, in my case I was always told that I would never amount to anything and beat on a daily basis by my father. Any name calling is abuse, if people hurt your feelings and don't care that is abuse, if it is a parent or significant other, it could be a criminal offense! Do not put up with it, such behavior is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Fight or flee the situation but do not stand there and take it!

Verbal abuse is subjective. The person doing the abusing may think it's harmless, and wonder what the hell you're so upset about. It's up to the "victim" to decide what constitutes as "abuse", which is anything that makes you feel afraid or worthless. Some abuse is insidious, like a slow eating cancer, it creeps up on you over time. You don't realise you have been subjected to it until one day you wake up believing you are nothing but a doormat.

I think verbal abuse is when, People treat you like your nothing and Then tell you,You'll never amount to anything because, There's always someone out there who's better than you!..That's what my mom used to say all the while growing up.. When people make fun of you because you look different, Say mean things to make you feel bad.. I think when people cuss at you using foul language demeaning you making you feel ashamed even when you feel your not, Is verbal abuse!!...What it all boils down to is that, If at anytime that you feel disrespected or intimidated is verbal abuse...

Verbal abuse is the intentional, consistent and prolonged use of words for the purpose of injuring, demeaning or controlling another person, either as a defense against perceived attack or to achieve dominance, or both.

It matters not that the target of the abuse is actually aware of the attempt or vulnerable to it. What matters is the intent of ther abuser.

Verbal abuse is something that is spoken to intentionally hurt another person. I can give you a prime example from my own life...when I was 15 years old my mother turned to me and said (this is absolutely verbatim, mind you!) "you better marry the first man that comes along because you're not pretty enough or smart enough to get anyone better". That's verbal abuse. It was spoken for no other reason than to hurt me. Another prime example is a "friend" of mine said to me "you have no business being on stage because you can't sing". (did not matter that other people actually enjoy hearing me sing!) She passed judgment on me and that is abuse!

Anything said to you that you find offensive and have indicated so to the abusive person without a change in that person's behavior is verbal abuse. It can be annoying and it can also be downright illegal. (verbal assault) If is occuring in the workplace and you have told the offenders that you want them to stop, and they don't; report them to a manager. If it continues, keep accurate notes of what was said, and by whom, and sue the company.

In order to be verbally abused you must also be dependent on the abuser. Most of the time verbal abuse shows itself in somebody demeaning you and your self worth. Women and Men can be guilty of verbal abuse. Just remember, if you husband calls you fat, and you yell back when you are short. You are both guilty of verbal abuse.

Abuse is described as follows:

·buse /v. əˈbyuz; n. əˈbyus/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[v. uh-byooz; n. uh-byoos] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation verb, a·bused, a·bus·ing, noun
–verb (used with object) 1. to use wrongly or improperly; misuse: to abuse one's authority.
2. to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way: to abuse a horse; to abuse one's eyesight.
3. to speak insultingly, harshly, and unjustly to or about; revile; malign.
4. to commit sexual assault upon.
5. Obsolete. to deceive or mislead.
–noun 6. wrong or improper use; misuse: the abuse of privileges.
7. harshly or coarsely insulting language: The officer heaped abuse on his men.
8. bad or improper treatment; maltreatment: The child was subjected to cruel abuse.
9. a corrupt or improper practice or custom: the abuses of a totalitarian regime.
10. rape or sexual assault.
11. Obsolete. deception.
—Idiom
Verbal Abuse in itself can describe a physical or mental characteristic about someone, group or in a sterotypical group that insults them and demeans them. FOr a woman, calling them "fat" can be abusive in nature and hurt that person's feelings on their overall appreance. Calling a child "stupid" due to an accident or careless mistake by their parent can be verbal abuse. In a relationship, calling your lover a "bad lay" or "terrible companion" are more examples.
The ironic part is that we try to learn the "Stick and Stones" approach to words - Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words will never harm me.
If that were true, many people wouldn't feel violated when we call them gay, fag, *****, or an Assh0le. Unfortunetly, we still take that as a violation of our personal space because it hurts our personal feelings.

nothing is verbal abuse 2 me, any1 can say anything 2 me, and it wont hurt my "so-called" feeling, if I even have any. The way I see it you have to expect the worst from any one @ anytime, and that's what I do. Some1 starts 2 yell at me I'm like ***** them I never liked them anyway, they can go suck a di.ck for all I care and it don't even bother me.

Verbal abuse is anything you say to someone that puts them down and makes them feel inferior or afraid. Even in an argument, there is never any excuse to put someone down.
