My prom is in three weeks, but my date really doesn't know how to put an outfit together. I suggested that we co-ordinate outfits, but I need a little help as men's clothing isn't my strong-point.

I'm wearing a red strapless dress with black gloves.

He has a charcoal grey suit, so I'm thinking he should wear it with a black shirt and either a red or white tie?

I'm not sure though, any advice on what he should wear with his suit?

Charcoal suit with a black shirt and red or white tie? What is he supposed to be an extra in Guys and Dolls?

Take a swatch of your dress fabric to a fine men's shop and let them give you several combinations of shirts and ties that will work. Charcoal suit is a good neutral that will go with pretty much any color.

Personally, I am not a big fan of the whole matching colors bit for prom couples. The main concern should be that you don't clash. You should be the focus and the man should not so much co-ordinate with you as compliment you. I always think the woman should look fabulous and the fellow should look good on her arm. We are more an accessory.

Nothing looks worse than two prima-donnas trying to out do each other. That ends up looking like a 1970's pimp movie.

You are on the right track but take my advice. There are many variations of red. Bring the actual fabric of your dress along to match. Believe me, if he has a red that is off by a few shades it will compete with your dress.

I would say that since you don't want the grey suit and the black shirt to clash, he should wear the white shirt with a red tie. You guys will match, but not too much. Have fun at prom! ♥

It would be nicer if he'd wear a black suit, red shirt and black tie.
But if he's sticking with the charcoal gray suit, then black shirt and red tie.

Ideally, he should get a tux, whether its rental or bought.
In my opinion, black tux, white shirt, Red vest + tie to match you. Corsage/Boute....whatever its called should match red.

If he keeps the suit.... well at least rent a red vest+tie, and i suppose a black shirt if you want, but white looks better.

If the healthful became a lighter or brighter military shade, then it does no longer artwork. yet, it fairly is a dismal blue black military and could look nice which contain your purple dress. in case you may discover some fairly jewelry with purple and dark blue stones in them, that would help to pull the two clothing at the same time extra. additionally, you need to use dark military ribbons in you corsage and his boutonierre. it is going to actual be outstanding and diverse from the black suits you spot so in many circumstances!! : }
