I've got one pumpkin plant, and it has one huge female flower and many small male ones. the female flower opened up for one day, then closed, now seems to be withering a bit. but none of the male flowers have opened yet. am i f*cked? or is a pumpkin gonna grow?

More female flowers will appear. Relax. Would be nice if you had more than one plant to hedge your bets with more male and female flowers. You can be the "bee" here and next time the female flower opens, take a Q-tip and transfer the pollen from the male to the female. Once a female flower is pollinated, it will soon close and the petals wither a bit. So hopefully Nature has taken care of this for you already.

pumpkin have male and female flowers, the females have a bulge behind the flower, you have to be quick to catch them open but next time you get one which you will, get a childs paint brush and tickle inside each flower whether they male or female as though you are abee transfering pollen from flower to flower

yeah the male and female flowers must open same time for the male flower spores to be transfered to the female flower.....that starts all the germination process and all that....creepy stuff that goes on to make a new pumpkin....

well you have two you know how big they can grow maybe in this heat wave the plant has decided this is all it can handle at the moment plants can do this if I have a few cucumbers growing the new ones further up the plant start to die off they grow quickly and require a lot of energy from the plant pumpkins are the same
