I have a friend whose mother could probably be reported to social services, but no one in his family will do that to her. He is 17 and the last child at home. He doesn't want to hurt his mother, but he (and his extended family) believes that he would be better off living somewhere else. His mother is very manipulative and confrontational (she stands in my friends face and screams at him in the middle of the night after having made him work until really late on school nights.)She has also made it so that she controls his bank account and will not let him have access to his bank account that is also in her name. He wants to go live with his brother or father. Neither of them will stand up to her harrassment. He would leave and go live somewhere else, but he has to know that she cannot legally force him to go back. can anyone tell me what the law states in louisiana?

There are two terms associated with becoming of age where a "minor" can do certain things.

One term is known as "Age of Consent" which is normally lower than that of the second term "Age of Majority" or "emancipation."

Emancipation (Age of Consent) in the State of Louisiana is 18: unless emancipated earlier by notarial act, marriage or judicial determination: if a minor is still in high school, then age 19, or upon graduation from high school, whichever occurs first.

Emancipation normally involves a stage in a minors life where they become able to care for themselves without dependence upon another adult.

Unless he peititions the court, he has to live with one of his parents until 18. If they agree for him to leave, that's a different matter. If he is truly being abused, either mentally of physically, he needs to call social services. You can even do it for him. They will check it out.

you won't be able to go away purely via fact you're pregnant, and want you and your BF understand that mommy and daddy and pass to the law enforcement officers and have them look in to Corruption of teen expenditures against him. while you're pregnant which would be data of him having a sexual courting with you, even no count number if it is not a "statutory rape" fee.
