To me, it does not mean nothing is someone sits with their back to me in the office but some european people it really hurts. Other cultures are not like that... please explain.

By turning your back to someone, you are turning away communication and acknowledgment of their presence. Sure you are working, but do you really need to shut out the whole world in doing so? Aren't you working on the same team, for the same cause?

If you notice, people on television are never filmed with their backs facing the camera either. It is not the most flattering side, nor is it the sincere side. If you can't see a person's face/eyes, you wonder what they are hiding....
