In a nut shell, I am talking about prison reform..I live VERY close to Florida State Prison so I see alot first hand. Recreation my *** The Criminals should have the same brought upon them as they did to thier victims..An eye for an eye. As for the drug users: I was never tempted so I do not understand the attraction, let alone the addiction, and the appeals proccess...? OMG what a waste of tax payer dollars..Speaking of dollars...How many of you are aware that it costs 267,000.00 +/- to house a state prisoner for one year..I don't live that well..Do you...? I read some good points but I still think that tent cities need to be set up in place of new prisons, with razor wire and shotguns..you try to escape....you die..no warning ...you get close to the fence.(being told the results of that)..plain and simple, bring in the body bag. They are CRIMINALS..sent to prison for commiting a crime...not to live and eat better than most of us who work for a living...TTYL

i totally agree i dont think those in prison should have all the things they have. When I lived in Missouri i was very good friends with some of the prison guards and they used to tell me all the things these people had access too. It would make you sick. They used to have bands come in and hold concerts. They have cable t.v. They have a pretty good life there. A free gym area, lots to do. Get paid to work in the prison and although the pay is not much come on they are in prison they should have to work for nothing. I agree that they live too well. There is no reason it should be so nice for them while they are behind bars. Then society wonders why there are so many repeat offenders. They live better there than out in the real world. If they would make prison horrible there would be more people learning from it and not wanting to go back.

Ok
I'm down with an eye for an eye even if the world goes blind.
So how do you determine what the eye is in a drug offense? I believe the majority of current prisoners fall into this category.

I don't think there is a crime if there is no victim. There wouldn't be nearly half as many people in jail therefore not costing nearly so much money, if the gov.t didnt feel like they had be our babysitters. If a drug user commits a crime. Send him to jail for the crime, not for the possibility that he may commit a crime.
I am a drug user and I never bothered anybody elses rights or freedoms. Most of us drug users work like everyone else.

I work, I pay taxes and I don't bother anyone else. So what's my "eye" for drug use. I know people who have been in jail for 20 years and still counting for Marijuana!!

Thats frigging CRAZY. You are more likely (alot more likely)to harm somebody by riding a bicycle than you are by smoking pot. Yet if your rich, or a politician and steal millions of dollars you probably only get a year or two (and in the luxory prisons). (Been happening alot here in New Mexico lately, In fact these officials scammed the taxpayers on the building of the new courthouse AND the seperate Prison facility.)

We have a higher percentage of people in jail than any other country in the world. More than stalin had during his time in Russia.

The Bush's and other legislators own alot of stock in many of the "privately run" prisons. They R big business. Do U think that effects how many people go to jail and how many prisons R built?

I don't know myself. But I don't like the smell of it and it's definitely a possible conflict of interest. What if the judges owned stock in the prisons? Or the cops?

But I'm down with killing a killer or a rapist and getting rid of the f****kers.

Leave Us Alone, that leave others alone,

Peace,

I agree. Personally, sending some of these people to prison is a waste of time and money. Many of them still run thier criminal enterprises from behind bars, have access to drugs, and view going to prision as a "badge of honor."

I know Arizona had a tent city prison, but it came under fire for the conditions the "poor inmates" were subjected to. As for why things are the way they are, my guess is that too many bleeding heart liberals support the rights for these dickbags to be treated with dignity and respect. I blame them. My solution find a tree and get a rope.

Well you raise some interesting points. I can understand your frustration and your anger, they kill so they should be killed, they made someone suffer so they do should suffer. Think about this a lot of prisoners probably had some sort of experience, most likely negative or abuse. I know what your thinking they should not take it out on innocent persons and I agree. Some of those people are probably suffering in ways we cannot understand, they are not animals but human beings. I'm not saying they should have five star treatment either. But..two wrongs don't make a right, its up to someone else to hand out their justice and that will probally be forever. Not us.

If a fraction of the trillions of dollars the US spends on misadventures the world over were to be devoted to measures to help socially disadvantaged people in the US to improve on their lives, I can assure you that the prison population would reduce drastically. May be you can check out the prison population in countries like Sweden, Denmark, Norway ... or even closer to home in Canada. You would be amazed the US in this regard is but a developing country. Criminals are not born, they are made by policies which glorify the acquisition of wealth by the few at the expense of the majority.

You are being TOTALLY irresponsible quoting a per year cost of incarceration of 267,000. Even in your state of Florida, the average cost is less than 20,000.

You live close to a prison. Big deal. Have you ever actually worked in one, or even gone in one for a "tour?" I have worked in a Fl prison and gone through several additional ones to see how they are run. Do you even realize that these inmates must be managed while in there? Most prisoners in most prisons are required to have a programmatic assignment. This means they are either attending school or have a work assignment.

I agree with all you say, and remember if your a celebrity you get a "get out of Jail (relatively) Free". To add an additional note based around the legal system in General here in the states, the good people, those who work hard, those of a good heart, get raped by the system end up worse legally than some of these hardcore criminals, who get TV, a work-out, bed and free home..

Good and Bad indeed, if you're a good person you really get it bad, If you're a Bad person, you really get it good..

Most crime is caused by people who had bad parents and by people who have substance abuse issues. There is a percentage of the population who are truly evil, but it is pretty small.

If you want to decrease the number of prisoners, go to the source.

I do agree that the people in jail get treated better than they should be. They so not need that much luxerie for commiting a crime. Because what does that say? If you break the law then you will still get to have fun. When people get rewarded for doing bad things then they should be punished not rewarded.

I agree. they get to work out watch tv and they eat better than 75 percent of the people in the US. I only make about 25,000 a year and I barely get by.
