Those vibrating chairs. She fussed all the way home from the hospital. Got there put her in that chair and she fell right to sleep. First sleep I had had since giving birth.
As a single mommy, I do wish I had had more help. So if anyone offers to help you with the baby, especially the first week, take them up on it. You'll be glad you did. You'll need all the rest you can get to heal so you can care for your baby better.

I don't actually have an answer to your question. I'm responding because I'm in the exact same boat and I can share with you what I'm doing. I had my first child 10yrs ago, at 22. I'm 5'7 and was 125lbs at the time- a size 5. I had been that size since I was 17yrs old and have ALWAYS been slim. It took me about a month after having the baby to get back to my original size. Well, not exactly because I moved up to a size 6. Anyway, I was a size 6 until I just had my 2nd baby- who is now 6mo. I'm 32. During my first pregnancy, the weight (I gained about 70lbs) just dropped off with no problem. During my last pregnancy, the weight (I gained about 65lbs) decided that it wanted to make a home around my hip/***/thigh area and now I'm a size 10/12. My eating habits aren't good, at all. I'm working on it but it's a slow process. However, in spite of that, the little bit of exercising I've been doing, is making a difference. My hips are still out of control but my legs are smaller, (it looks like) my stomach is getting smaller, and my energy level is way up. All of that encourages me to continue trying to get in shape. I have no specific exercise regimen. I do crunches, aerobic workouts, and core strengthening exercises. I work out for about 20min a day, every day and it is indeed producing results. I can't suggest a work out plan for you but I can tell you that if you commit yourself to whatever it is you try, it will probably work. More than anything, it takes committment and a willingness to see results. Good luck.

Binkis. Those are the biggest life saver. Buy plenty of them because they get lost quickly. Also the baby swing. Those things are God's gifts to mommys.

With my 2 kids, I couldn't imagine life without a boppy pillow when my kids were little. I brestfed my son until he was about 5 months, then I bottle fed him. The boppy was nice for both and I used it when I wasn't feeding him. I was nice to set him in it on the floor when he couldn't sit up or sometimes it was comforting to him to help him sleep. I used one with my daughter also. I breastfed her til she was 10 months and used the boppy pillow all the time. I used it for feeding, sitting her in it, and letting me sleep in it. Sometimes she just played with it. It was great. I plan on using it with my third child as well.

Feeding pillow. I didn't have one the first time around but it has been brilliant for the second one.
Also a sling or harness so you can carry them round while you're doing stuff. A front harness gives you two free hands but they grow out of it quickly. The sling let me carry a two year old around and keep one arm free, and it's so easy to get them in and out of.

Afternoon naps. Take full advantage of these and do something for yourself whether it's finally sweeping the floor, or taking an afternoon bubble bath and giving yourself a pedicure, do what you can't normally do while baby is awake.

Can't live without a totally supportive and loving husband! Not necessarily to do the work, but just to BE THERE!
