Given the choice, I always go for the middle road. Moderation is best in just about every situation.
The hobbit is probably just as likely to laugh at my small, less than hairy feet, so I probably wouldn't say anything about his.

I take the low road and pray for the high one. Doesn't hurt to be prepared.

I often choose the high road because it provides a distant view, but I also will sing the song if I notice I'm on the low road. That can be fun too. I try to take note of anything I meet: furry creatures on four legs are often fun to smile at along the way, but a Hobbit??? That would be something! I think I'd have to laugh... if it wouldn't be impolite of course.
