have hand luggage restrictions at Gatwick been relaxed since last summer?

will be transitting through Gatwick at month's end enroute to US. last year on same route, even though we followed the regulations posted on the Gatwick website, we had to check our hand luggage. this was shortly after the plot to use gel explosives was uncovered, and restictions were very tight. just wondering if they have loosened up.

You can take one carry on and only a small amount of liquids (although you can buy more once you have passed security)
