Has Russia requested entry into the EU? I think not.
Joining the EU also requires streamlining the country's legislation and practices with those in the EU. I am not sure Russia will want to do that.

Russia is part of Europe, but as far as I'm aware they (the Russians) have not even applied for membership of the European Union.

Only countries that apply to join the EU get a chance to do so.

Russia doesn't want to join so hasn't applied. It is not a case of them being denied.

Geographically, only the portion of Russia West of the Urals is in Europe - the rest is in Asia

As far as I know, Russia is more Asian than European. That's for the reason. Plus, i don't know if they do want to join. They brag about their "uniqueness" (aren't we all?!) and i think it's gonna take a loong time before even considering joining.

it could on no account happen. perhaps sometime russia could connect the eu and turkey and all of europe (possible yet very now not probable) yet noone else. the international ought to be a greater effective place yet probable the eu could desintegrate first XD

Because they are not ready to join. And at present are moving more towards reopening the cold war than joing the EU.
