I am currently exploring the concept of micronations and would appreciate some insightfull feedback from anyone that have though about starting their own sovereign state. First of all I need to find some unclaimed territory- expecpt for antarctica- maybe someone out there knows of volcanic islands or rock islands in the pacific that could be claimed as independant? I appreciate any ideas??

Vermont is preparing to do it in 2008, by putting the subject on the ballot and gaining signatures to get it put on a ballot like wildfire.
They got tired of a government that is weak on immigration, lets the rich get away with everything, and a government that is run by corporations and lobbyists.

There are no unclaimed islands anywhere. Many countries have staked claim of islands that no one would ever live on. Ridiculous in my opinion. They usually claim they should control them for environmental reasons. If you try to use them they will arrest you.
This idea is in many minds. The only way you can start a new system is to take over some poorly run country or build platforms in the ocean and live on those.
